Becky Sanford

Becky Sanford was first introduced to quilting by her grandmother, who made and hand-quilted large bed quilts for her more than 40 grandchildren and numerous baby quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Becky admired her quilting acumen and was fascinated and captivated by all the colors and designs and fabrics her grandmother had used and saved over the years.

A maker by nature, Becky learned and practiced many crafts and skills over the years, including crocheting, cross-stitching, scrapbooking, embroidery, canning (fruits and jams), and beadwork. Always wanting to learn a new skill, she borrowed her friend’s sewing machine and joined a Block of the Month in 2005. She was hooked! Two years later a seasoned quilter and quilt instructor moved into her neighborhood, and she learned all things quilting from her new friend. She took many classes from her to hone her skills from beginning to end. Since this introduction to quilting, she has made over 175 quilts as well as numerous bags, pillows, and wall hangings.

Becky’s favorite aspect of Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) is the perfection that can be achieved with results that are difficult to duplicate using traditional methods. Her first introduction to Legit Kits was in 2021 when she saw a preorder for Land of the Free, and she knew she had to make it! At this point in time, she was a seasoned foundation paper piecer, but she had never seen anything quite like this! The block construction methods were revolutionary, and the results stunning! Take a bunch of random scraps of Kona, sew them into various geometric units forming standard blocks and MAGIC, you end up with a breathtaking art quilt!

As a Legit Kits certified quilt instructor, she wants to provide an opportunity for everyone to make one of these unique and remarkable quilts. With a few basic tips and tricks, any Maker can create a work of art!
